WADEBRIDGE 0 - PENRYN ATHLETIC 0
This was a tight game and well-contested throughout, however, it was the visitors who enjoyed the grater share of possession and who created the better chances.
For the first ten minutes Athletic enjoyed a great spell and played some bright, innovative football with a fine run and swerving shot by Dale Band thumping off the crossbar. An overhead kick by Sam Eglinton put Band clear again but he put his shot narrowly wide as Gears came out to narrow the angle.
In the twenty-fifth minute Andy Butcher moved out to punch the ball away but was taken out by Chris Wolstencroft. The ball fell to martin Cook who lobbed the ball into the empty net which was followed by some heated exchanges as players from both sides became embroiled in the incident. The referee disallowed the goal for the challenge on Butcher.
Athletic began the second half brightly and put together some good football that saw Town more than happy to concede corners. Eglinton threaded the ball through the Bridger's defence for Band to go through but his shot was blocked and Will Scoley almost had a rare scoring opportunity when he poked the ball wide of the post from close range. As the half wore on Athletic began to make changes with Mike Brewer and Jamie Marles replacing Eglinton & Lawrence.
Gears was forced to scramble
away a long range shot from Dean Harris as Athletic still continued to look
the more likely side to score but in the final ten minutes Wadebridge becan
to show a little more desire. Andy Harris put an effort wide of the target
and Stuart Parkyn put a header over the bar but as for much of the game the
home side lacked a real threat in front of goal.
