3 - Plymouth Parkway 4
run sadly came to an end at Kernick Road when they were beated by visitors,
Plymouth Parkway after yet another glut of goals.
For a team who have found
it difficult to keep the ball out of their own net this season, they are actually
the South Western League’s third highest scorers.
Although the visitors
made a good start it was Penryn who almost opened the scoring when Darren
Burchell hit a twenty-five yard shot that went just the wrong side of the
upright. However, Parkway opened the scoring in the thirty-sixth minute when
Mark Conday broke through Penryn’s back line and fired in a shot which
Avery could only beat out for Wade price to follow up on and knock the ball
into the net.
Dave Wilkinson was unable
to bring the home side level when he missed from a well placed spot but five
minutes before half-time Jamie Thirkle hit a deep cross to the far post where
Wilkinson headed in. Parkway regained the lead before the break, however,
when Mark Gammon shrugged off his marker and fired in a shot which Avery couldn’t
keep hold of leaving Conday to score with the loose ball.
Early in the second half
another shot beat out by Avery left Charlie Pond to steer the ball the wrong
side of the upright. However, eleven minutes into the half Penryn were back
level when a shot by Pook was parried by Dungey, leaving Burchell to fire
his shot into the corner of the net.
After an hour’s
play the home side finally edged in front when Wilkinson headed home from
a Steve Jewell cross. Sadly, five minutes later Parkway equalised with a superb
shot from Wade Price and in the last twenty minutes of the game Gammon hit
a pass to Conday who was able to lift the ball over a stranded Avery to gain
a win for the visitors.
