PENRYN ATHLETIC 9- MOUSEHOLE 0
Penryn continued their march up the League table by thrashing struggling Mousehole 9-0 at home. Penryn are now up to eighth on the back of five stright wins and an unbeaten run which stretches back to the end of September. It is a stark turnaround from the side's early season form. In fact the last time these sides met in the league on 25 August it was a game of cat and mouse with penryn squeaking a 2-1 victory. However, on Saturday it was a completely different game wit the home side on the hunt for goals from start to finish.
In fairness Mousehole did have a number of first team players out, but with only one shot at goal they couldn't argue with the finishing scoreline. It did take Penryn 21 minutes to open their account as teh visitors defended in numbers. A change of pace going forward led to the opener as Pete Maclean slipped a ball into Sean Johnston down the left. Instead of electing to shot, the skipper then cut the ball across the face of goal for Pat Shaughnessy to power the ball into the back of the net from eight yards out.
Within two minutes Penryn had doubled their lead. Hal Davis forced his way through the midfield before passing to Hugh Howlett in the area. He then set the ball up for Johnston to hammer a shot into the back of the net past the helpless Ryan Gendall. Mousehole managed to hold their ground for a further 20 minutes before Penryn added a third just before half time. Shaughnessy was the provider as he powered his way into the box before crossing the ball to the back post where Jamie Thirkle was left with an easy finish.
There was no let up fromm the home side after the break with two goals in the first five minutes dealing a hammer blow to the visitors' morale. Dale Band weaved his way through the defence to get the first before Thirkle got his second and Penryn's fifth, by thundering a shot in from ten yards out.
Penryn then took the opportunity to rest their County Under 18 players, Darren Edwards and Dave Blizzard which gave substitute, Mall McIlroy a chance to get his name on the scoresheet and he duly obliged with his first touch of the ball before Johnston grabbed his second of the match with an accurate shot. McIlroy then got his second as he finished off substitute Will Scoley's cross for number eight. Shaughnessy then completed the scoring with a good strike for number nine.
