PENRYN ATHLETIC 5 - ILLOGAN 1

Penryn are through to the fourth round of the Cornwall Senior Cup after they confidently beat Jolly's Combination League side Illogan RBL. The visitors battled hard to restrict Penryn's dominance but the warning signs were there when Dan Richardson was put through on goal only to be denied by Barry Wyatt. Illogan were quick into the tackle as the heated cup tie threatened to boil over in the first half. However, Penryn took the lead on 31 minutes as Liam Streat poked a ball through to Greg Hobbs, who shot across Wyatt adn inside the bottom right hand corner. Penryn, with this breakthrough, then piled on the pressure up to half time.

It was 2-0 on 37 minutes as High Howlett played a ball across field to find Hobbs on the right. He then outflanked the visiting defence to hit a low cross that Kayne Trevaskis turned in at the far post. Tow minutes later Hobbs added a third as he struck home Richardson's corner. However, Illogan's physical approach to the game continued as Penryn's Kirk Davies exited the field with a badly studded leg.

The start of the second half was a bit of a non-event as Penryn pushed forward in search of more goals only to be dened by an in-form Wyatt. It took until the 75th minute for Penryn to add a fourth goal as substitute Steve Owen beat Wyatt to a Richardson through ball, rounded the Illogan keeper and ran the ball into an unguarded net. wyatt then took centre stage in the closing 5 minutes as he got his name on the scoresheet for Illogan. Wyatt tried to add a second gaol later on as he raced up for an injury-time corner. However the keeper was caught out as Penryn broke quickly and Josh Sims sent in a 50-yard shot into the Illogan net before the covering defenders, or Wyatt, could get back.
