Despite being the better side during the first half of this well fought game Penryn came away losers. Both goals came in the opening 35 minutes with Matt Sheilds converting a penalty after Dan Magee had been brought down by Pete Davey in the area. A long ball out of defence by right-back, Scott Jose, put in Chris Wolstencroft to cleverly round Steve Raven before scoring.

The second half was pretty uneventful but Hayle had to be thankful for their goalkeeper, David Cheals who made an important save when he turned a free kick onto his bar at a time when Penryn threatened to get back into the game.
