PENRYN 2 - HAYLE 1
Hayle had the best chance in the early stages of the match when Penryn left their left flank wide open which allowed Dan McGee a chance to race clear and force a save from Raven in the Penryn goal. Simon Stevens then had a good effort before McGee had a second shot saved.
On 30 minutes Mark Goldsworthy replaced Bryn Wheeler and was imemdiately pulled down by Hayle left back Tom Dan. Man of the match, Pat Shaughnessy hit the lengthy free kick up and over the Hayle defence for Hal Davis to volley into the net from eight yards and give Penryn a 1-0 lead.
Penryn then began to threaten and five minutes before half time Pete Maclean was pole axed by Chris Rustle who managed to avoid retribution but Pat Shaughnessy's well struck free kick went inside the left hand post to give Penryn a 2-0 lead.
Six minutes after the restart Penryn were unlucky to have a third goal ruled out when Jamie Thirkle ran at hayle through the middle and his pass to Will Scoley was held up by a defender which allowed Scoley to fire a shot past Cheale in the Hayle goal but this was ruled offside.
Penryn had further chances to add to their goal scoring tally as Thirkle hit the crossbar with a long range effort while at the other end a Hayle striker shot wide of an open goal. Pete Maclean, who had been battered and hassled all afternoon, eventually succombed to injury and was replaced by Martin Day. However, he suffered a bad tackle and had to retire from the pitch with severe ligament damage to his knee. Steve Warr, his replacement, set up a useful attack but Howlett's shot was beated by Cheale.
At the other end McGee
got free on the byline to float a cross to the near post for substitute Danny
Williams to stab home from six yards to make the score 2-1 to Penryn.
