PENRYN 7 - CALLINGTON 1
The first goal came in
the first minute of the game when Damon Mulready's first pass of the game
found Dave Rabone who tapped the ball into an open net. Athletic doubled their
lead in the 20th minute when Dean Harris' diagonal pass found Dale Band who
unleashed a terrific volley that rocketed into the net past Drinka. In the
25th minute Callington pulled one back when a hurried back pass to Butcher
brought a hasty clearance that found Mike Norman who brushed past a defender
and beat the keeper with ease.
Seven minutes later Athletic redressed th balance from a free kick quickly taken by Ashley Bradshaw who slipped the ball past the wall and into the far corner of the net. Five minutes before half-time Band ran onto Rabone's pass and again gave Drinka no chance with a spectacular thundering finish. Almost immediately from the whistle Bradshaw picked up Mulready's pass and slipped the ball into the net past a stranded keeper.
The second half saw Athletic bring on Shaun Lawrence in place for Luke Appleton for his first run since being badly injured at Millbrook. However, only five minutes later he received a kick on the same spot as the previous injury and was replaced by Will Scoley. In the 69th minute Bradshaw completed his hat-trick when he bundled his way through to roll the ball into the net and five minutes from time Band completed his trio of goals from the penalty spot after Scoley was pulled back.
